FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – South Carolina senior Lakya Brookins ran three NCAA auto times in six hours Friday to lead the Gamecocks at the Tyson Invitational.

Brookins, the NCAA leader in the 60-meter dash, ran her sixth, seventh and eighth consecutive automatic qualifying times in the event to earn the victory. The Bowerman watch list member has now run an NCAA auto time every time she has stepped on the track since the finals of the Hokie Invitational – a string of eight straight runs. Brookins won Friday at 7.18, tying her season best, after taking third in the semi’s (7.24) and third in the prelims (7.24).

Kierre Beckles changed her season best time in the 60-meter hurdles with all three runs Friday night as the junior took third in the finals at 8.22, just .08 seconds away from automatically qualifying for nationals. Beckles also ran 8.23 int eh semis and 8.33 in the prelims, while Janica Austin ran a season best 8.40 in the consolation final to place second.

The Gamecock trio of Sanura Eley-O’Reilly, Amber Allen and Radiance Basden each ran season bests in the 400-meter dash finals, led by Eley-O’Reilly’s 10th place overall finish at 53.90. Allen placed 39th after winning her heat in a time of 56.25 while Basden ran 59.59 in her first 400-meter race of the season.

Freshman Clayton Gravesande took 18th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.80 and was followed by Andre Carter in 22nd at a season best 47.96. Aaron Anderson placed 33rd (48.50) and Chris Maxwell ran a season best 49.34 to place 55th.

In the men’s 60-meter hurdles, Kevaugh Griffith placed 8.58 in his first hurdle race of the season. Another freshman, Dorian Johnson, claimed 24th in the long jump at 22’3 ½ (6.79m).

Chris Royster ran 6.94 in the men’s 60-meter dash and Antonio Sales ran 7.08 to place 47th and 64th, respectively.

South Carolina returns to action Saturday morning at the Tyson Invitational.
